Voon Zhen Yi

President & Chief Policy Anaylst

Voon is the President and Chief Policy Analyst of the Forum for Insight, Knowledge & International Relations (FIKIR). He also heads the Politics & Governance Unit while overseeing FIKIR's overall strategic direction and other policy initiatives.  

Prior to FIKIR, Voon was the former Research Director of KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific (KSI) and Manager of Programmes & Research at the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI)’s Centre for Public Policy Studies (CPPS). Voon has contributed several op-eds on matters of the economy, education policy, politics and governance, as well as international relations featured in The Star, Malaysiakini, the Malay Mail, Free Malaysia Today, Sin Chew Daily, and Focus Malaysia, and has been quoted by BBC and Channel News Asia. He was also involved with financial institution whilst working at FIDE FORUM, curating thought leadership programmes for directors of financial institutions which saw him working alongside Malaysia's Central Bank - Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM). 

Voon holds a Master of Public Policy and Management from Monash University, Australia, and a Bachelor of Business and Commerce from the same university. He also holds certifications in:

  • Business, International Relations and the Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)

  • Religion, Conflict and Peace from Harvard University

  • Factors that Influence the Effectiveness of Boards and the Governance Process from the State University of New York and University of Buffalo
